Mostly the pictures of Gods and Goddess are used. Traditional type was they used to use plank of wood and powder was made out of tamarind seeds and was mixed in glue which was made from some extract of plants. Precious and semiprecious stones were used .A three dimensional effect was given and gold foil were used. Now a days wooden planks are replaced with plywood and instead of tamarind seeds, lime is used. Semi precious stones and gold foil are used.

I first learnt this form of painting from my friend,to whom I am always indebted. She took lot of pains to go over the details. That was six seven years back.I have come a long way, almost finished forty paintings.Though it takes too much time but is very interesting to do.I would recommend to all who have an interest in this form of painting to learn and keep our art alive.

MURUGAN

.
Times have changed and so the technique too. In olden days  everything was very tedious. Previously wooden planks made of teak were used , now  treated plywood are used. The material used has also changed. This work involves lot of stages .  First we have to ready the board , for that a cotton cloth is pasted tightly across the board with an adhesive. Next limestone, adhesive or arabic gum is used in the ratio2:1. Then when the board is dry with a mild abrasive it is made smooth.  Then the figure is drawn , the jewellery and apparel in the image are decorated with semi precious stone , Muk is prepared using limestone and arabic gum and is applied near stones and other areas to give an embossed look. Gold foil is pasted over this. Then colour is added to it.Beautiful figures are in the centre surrounded by arches and curtains
