PAINTINGS IN LIMESTONE

This is a fruit basket, it is made of fevicol(adhesive) and limestone.  Each and every fruit is worked individually and pasted on to the board, once it dries out it is painted . Mostly oil and enamel paint is used to give it a glossy touch.

I learnt this art form when I visited a friend in Sirghai (tamil nadu). She showed me how to prepare  grapes, rose and leaves with a mixture of limestone and fevicol. She had done on small mud pots and even used as hangings on the wall.I tried at home and with lot of practice mastered the art.Instead of pasting to mud pots i started pasting on plywood and on my own started trying out new flowers ,fruits and leaves.
The whole process takes almost two or three days to complete. It is a very delicate work and has to be done carefully.

Main ingredients are fevicol and limestone. They are mixed and made into a dough like consistency. For making petals of a flower, each petal has to be worked out individually and then has to be pasted in the board or pots. After it has dried up  Oil paint is used to colour the leaves, flower etc.
