TANJORE PAINTINGS

Tanjore painting is a form of painting which was basically done in thanjavur in tamil nadu.This form of painting is a miniature form of painting, which is two centuries old. Mostly the pictures of Gods and Goddess are used. Traditional type was they used to use plank of wood and powder was made out of tamarind seeds and was mixed in glue which was made from some extract of plants. Precious and semiprecious stones were used .A three dimensional effect was given and gold foil were used.Now a days wooden planks are replaced with plywood and instead of tamarind seeds, lime is used. Semi precious stones and gold foil are used.

          I first learnt this form of painting from my friend,to whom I am always indebted.She took lot of pains to go over the details.That was six seven years back.I have come a long way, almost finished forty paintings.Though it takes too much time but is very interesting to do.I would recommend to all who have an interest in this form of painting to learn and keep our art alive.
